It all ends at the loading dock
An audit looked great until it got to the loading
dock. Based on studies, they had several times more people working on the dock than should be
needed. The evidence was gathered and the dock foreman was brought in to be interviewed. He
handed in his resignation and said to prosecute if they dared.
Apparently he had a friend in the check cashing business. And a lot of people on the
payroll who did not exist. Even better (worse), he had illegal aliens living in boxes on the loading dock who
did most of the work in return for a safe, dry & warm place to sleep. Nearly all of the payroll checks he
got every month were going in his pocket for over 20 years.
And they chose not to prosecute, to avoid bad publicity and possible legal action against
themselves for immigration violations.
